Rope Access to the Rescue!

Chased by the sun and hiding in the shade was the key tactic to completing this summer’s main project. With a 13 Day Deadline to complete the street side faces of these new apartment blocks before Christmas break, 10 Hour Shifts was the Order of the Day.

These Alexandria Apartments have been under creation by Baseline Constructions and are now approaching completion. Co-ordination with Nawkaw Australia to provide a uniform tinting colour to these concrete panels is the final stage of completion bringing these apartments up to the appearance required for this growing area.

Being long term applicators for Nawkaw Australia, we were called in due to the height and inaccessibility of many locations on these buildings. From vertical walls covered by balcony overhangs to other large walls over narrow land lots, Rope Access definitely was the ultimate solution for reaching each and every area for application of the Nawkaw Tint.

In co-ordination with the Baseline site supervisors and safety officers, we worked together to develop a safety plan acceptable to the high standard required for this project. With the Baseline crew not only being very professional to work with and extremely friendly, the possibilities for many more finishing tasks soon became an area of strong interest and consultation for the finalisation of this outstanding building project.

Hear Ivan and Chris settle in for a first coat drop over a large end wall. 10 hour days can be quite gruelling, but with this type of excitement, the days move along very quickly. Attention only on making the daily target not on the long hours spent. Not even slowing down for the red light cameras.

The Nawkaw coating is a very unique patented coating offering a 25 Year Warranty Period. There are many various colour ranges with applications to new and old concrete, brick and other masonry surfaces.

Other high and hard to reach areas become no more than a standard difficult access challenge.

Here TJ and Ivan work together to access the high and narrow balcony wall using rope access in combination with ladder access. Without the rope access points of attachment, there would be no way you could ever ask any tradesman to climb that ladder.

The consistency award definitely goes to Tim Rea. This guys worked with his three man team, day in and day out, making the daily targets required consistently.

But along with hard work and steady application, there can be those moments of having it made in the shade while waiting for more product to be received.

The completion and success of this project has been due to the combined effort and co-ordination of three companies, constant hydration with plenty of sun screen, the highest levels of safety requirements and job satisfaction.

Thanks goes out to Baseline for being continually assistive in the many barriers we had to overcome. There professionalism and interest in the day to day works has made a very safe environment for us to work in. Nawkaw Australia for their care and supervision in the application of their product and of course, the Townview Technicians that worked through one long hot summer to complete this task.
